Micah...

(Wouldn't it be nice if it was really that warm out today!!! :-)

I am off to bed, but wanted to post real quick. This is one of my New Year's resolution: to become a more 'faithful' blogger. :-) Anyways, we had Micah to the ENT today to have a look at his tonsils, and we walked out of the office with a date for his surgery. January 20th Micah will have his adenoids and tonsils removed. Over the past 2 years he has gotten sick sooooo frequently and no one else in the family catches what he gets. He has also had some nasty strep throat over the last year or so. So, we are sad that he has to endure yet another surgery, but we know that he will be much healthier and sleep much better afterward.

If you or your kiddos have ever had a tonsil/adenoidectomy, any advice would be great! Jonas had his adenoids removed when he was circumcised, and he did not have too much discomfort. But, I have heard when tonsils and adenoids are removed it is much more painful.

So, please respond with things you would have known and things that worked good for recovery.

Thanks so much!!!

Oh no! Micah and Angelina will have surgery within a week of each other for the same thing. (Angelines is on the 28th- we have to overnight because of the breathing stuff...) :(
Prayers!

I still remember having mine out in third grade. It was a very sharp pain when I swallowed but nothing that a little spoiling didn't help :) -Sherry

Push the water or any liquids for that matter, when Syd had hers out the doc told us to push the water. We made it a little game, get off the couch, take a sip, get on the couch, take a sip. I guess that it keeps it moist and helps it heal faster. Wait until you smell his breath after a couple of days, it's death breath. Seriously, it filled a room the stench did! It should go smoothly though...

Bryce had his out a year ago. The first night was awful...snoring, gurgling, etc. He ate things that were scratchy and he said actually felt good to him. Lots of popsicles, liquids, etc. His recovery lasted about 12 days with day 9 and 10 being the worst with the scabs. He had been sick quite a bit prior to that as well. He does sleep better and look healthier. Yay..it was worth it in the end.

Ali had hers removed this past July. She had an adverse reaction to Codeine, so that was our biggest problem. Once that situation was taken care of, she was a little trooper and recovered well. We pushed powerade down her and that seemed to keep her well hydrated. Also, the suppository for nausea was a God send:) Last year she missed 19 days of school for illness. This year, she has not even had a cold. Amazing!! Best Wishes and prayers for Micah!

Hey there, do you remember me? This is Amy from Selah. I came on your blog tonight to see any updates about Haiti. I'm glad to hear your friends are safe. We're praying for everyone there. I decided to post because I had my tonsils and adenoids out when I was 5. I don't remember it, but my mom says that the doctors told her to go home for a while because I was sleeping, and when she came back I was freaking out, so... maybe don't leave him alone.

Also, I notice you mentioned that he gets sick more than any of your kids and seems to catch everything. Well, that sounds just like me. I have chronic ear and sinus infections. I've had tubes in my ears 3 times, and have one now in my right ear. I finally went to see an allergist about 3 years ago, and it turns out that the majority of my ear/sinus problems were caused by me being allergic to practically everything. My biggest allergens are dust, animal hair, and mold. Growing up we had dogs and cats, and my house was very dusty. I wish my parents had thought to have me tested back then. Cats give my hives, and we had indoor cats for years! Since I've learned what I'm allergic to, I have been sick a lot less. I'm more careful around animals, and wear a mask when I clean, etc. It might be worth it, if you haven't already, to get Micah tested.

Anyways, I hope you are doing well. I'll be praying for Micah's surgery. Remember, lots of jello!
